See? I can draw.

Here are some sustained poses from the stash I mentioned last post. They're in no particular order, except that this first one earned second place in the figure drawing show my last year at school. Cool.

I found my figure drawing stash!

Ok... they were never lost. Just stored under my bed since I graduated last April. But finally, after months and months of nagging myself to do it, I went through all my old figure drawings (there were, like, at least 13 pads' worth). I might post some more gestures or short drawings in the future, but for now here are a couple gestures and few 20 minute-ers. Sustained drawings get their own post.

Listen. If ever you're told to dress up as a princess and you just don't want to... you can always sport a pig hat with a pink shirt. Throw in a bad attitude and you've yourself a Pissy Piggy Princess. Ta-da!

Oh whale!

A professor/teacher/friend from Provo recently recommended to me the name of a woman in New York who specializes in licensing for illustrators, graphic designers, photographers, etc. She'll meet with you via Skype to give her professional opinion on your work and whether/where it will fit into the market. I will meet with her, I swear. I'm just not ready yet. Buuut... I'm getting ready. Part of that is to get excited about the possibilities, right?? I was at a store a month or so ago and saw these blank canvas bags... and I decided to buy a couple so I could paint on them. See how a painting of mine would look on a 3D object, you know? Well... I like it a lot. I normally carry a backpack or nothing, but these days I tote this bag around everywhere. The pictures don't do it justice. But pay me $300 and I'll make you your own. The theme for this one is "Oh whale!" (a campaign I've decided it is my moral obligation to share with the world).

Dr. Seuss

My good friend wanted to throw a Dr. Seuss birthday party for her little boy, and she came to me for help on a few of the images (the rest of the decorations she took care of by herself, and I must say that they turned out amazingly!).
First there was the invite:
Then an image for a guessing game and one for a book meant to write little messages in.Then there was the party favor tag. She attached them to little bags of colored Goldfish snacks.It was a fun project to work on, and it was a huge relief to be doing some sort of art. Especially for people I care so much about!

Keeping the art up

is way harder than I thought it would be. I imagined my post-graduation self as someone with endless time on my hands to draw, paint and otherwise experiment in my chosen field. Real life is so much different. In fact, I've found little to no free time to do art. However, I recently remembered that if it's something I really want to be doing, I'll make the time. I thought about it, and it IS what I want to do. So, I've began changing my circumstances in order to accommodate that ever-present dream of having free time to do art. I'm still in the transition phase, so I haven't actually done anything yet. These two paintings are very quick digital studies that I did because I felt a dire need to paint something. Anything. It kind of felt like I was getting a drug fix or something... at least I imagine this is what a fix would feel like.

I told you someday I'd post the paintings from my BFA show, and here they are! They're posted mostly in the order they were painted.
Pretty great, eh? They look way cooler in real life, when you can get up close and see the texture and all the colors in each of them. But hey, if you commission me to do a piece you can have your very own real-life painting to look at all day long.
